2024 SummerStage Season | Footloose

LOCAL, IN-PERSON, YOUTH AUDITIONS

We encourage everyone ages 16 to 18 (by June 1)  who has a passion for acting, dancing, and/or singing – of any race/ethnicity, disability, age, or gender/gender identity – to attend our February auditions!  We are happy to welcome back both new and returning auditionees!

We are equally as excited to see underrepresented communities and those new to the theatre world. We ask that you challenge us to find new perspectives in this production’s characters by auditioning for roles that may not be traditionally “written for you” or has not previously been cast with an actor from your community.  Let us see what you’ve got!

The Arkansas Repertory Theatre will hold auditions for Footloose on Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17 at The Rep, located at 601 Main St., Little Rock, AR 72201.

Callbacks are scheduled for Sunday, February 18 from 2-6pm at The Rep. Those requested for callbacks will be notified by email.

Auditions may be recorded solely for viewing by out-of-town Musical Director.

WHAT TO PREPARE

*One contemporary monologue that showcases humor
Monologue should be 1 to 1 ½ minutes

*16 bars (around 30-45 seconds) of a pop or pop-inspired musical theatre song
An accompanist will be provided. Actors are welcome to bring sheet music or sing a cappella.

*Optional: a recent headshot and resume or bio

The Play

Toes will be tapping and spirits will be soaring when this explosive movie musical bursts onto the live stage! With dynamic new songs, coupled with the powerhouse hits from its bestselling Oscar-nominated score, this musical celebrates the exhilaration of youth, the wisdom of listening to one another, and the power of forgiveness.

The Roles

Teenager. Rebellious, magnetic, sincere, honest and hugely likable. Terrific pop/rock tenor with falsetto. Must dance or move extremely well. Smart, commanding actor able to navigate comedic and dramatic content with intelligence and heart. Star presence. Strong triple threat.

Teenager. Rebellious, complicated, fun-loving and sensitive. Physically comfortable and commanding actor with a terrific pop/rock belt. Must dance or move extremely well. Great triple threat.

High school student. Bari-Tenor. Any ethnicity. Lovable, loyal, a bit dim and shy around Rusty. Full of heart. Must move well. Great pop bari-tenor. A smart, very funny actor adept at physical comedy.

High school student. Any ethnicity. Wise cracking, fun-loving motor mouth. Full of quirks and shy around Willard. Powerful belt. Killer triple threat. Must dance well.

High school student. Ariel’s boyfriend and the town bad boy. Demanding, possessive and jealous, but also charismatic. Great rock tenor.
