Acting and Creative Movement | K - 2nd Grades

In this class, young actors will use their voices, bodies, and imaginations as tools to create new characters, atmospheres, and follow a narrative. With exercises and activities rooted in creative play and inspired by literature, students will gain confidence, sensory awareness, focus, improvisational skills, and the ability to collaborate within a group. Share what you’ve learned in an informal showcase for friends and family.

Musical Theatre | 3rd - 5th Grades

Discover the fundamentals of musical theatre technique by integrating acting, singing, and simple choreography in the development of Broadway repertoire. Students will learn proper vocal technique, body awareness, acting through movement, and how to work within an ensemble to tell a story. Apply your skills in an informal showcase for friends and family.

Musical Theatre | 6th - 8th Grades

Build on the fundamentals of musical theatre technique by integrating acting, singing, and basic choreography in the development of a musical revue. Expand on principles of vocal technique, music theory, Broadway repertoire, expression of character through movement, and learn how to elevate performances by making specific and unique choices on stage. Apply your skills in an informal showcase for friends and family.

Intro to Shakespeare | 9th - 12th Grades

“All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players…”

Strip away the fear and discover the fun in unraveling the language and poetry of the world’s most famous playwright, William Shakespeare. Taught by Kevin Brown, who holds an MFA in Classical Acting from the Academy for Classical Acting at George Washington University, this acting class will give students the tools to feel comfortable with the language of classical theatre. Through voice and speech work, text analysis, character studies, and exciting acting activities, students will find their own voice in classic Shakespeare scenes and monologues.

Teen Ensemble | 9th - 12th Grades | AUDITION ONLY

TEEN ENSEMBLE is an audition-only performance class featuring the top high school-age singers, dancers, and actors in the area. This small company of pre-professional actors will meet weekly for advanced training and rehearsals, diving into challenging musical theatre repertoire and scene work in the development of an original showcase.

Theatre Dance | 8th Grade - Adult

Get moving in this fun, high energy dance class focusing on Broadway-style choreography. Learn jazz and theater basics through warm-ups and practice picking up choreography in theatre combinations. Join us to get a weekly workout, learn how to fill your movement with character, and step into your next dance audition feeling confident. All levels welcome.

Beginning Tap | 8th Grade - Adult

Make some noise in this introductory course laying the foundation of tap dance technique. With warm ups and drills focusing on tap dance vocabulary, clarity of sound, and rhythmic variety, use your new skills in learning beginning tap choreography. (Tap shoes required.)

Intermediate Tap | 8th Grade - Adult

Make some noise in this course that builds upon the foundation of tap dance technique. With warm ups and drills focusing on tap dance vocabulary, clarity of sound, rhythmic variety, aesthetically quality, and the beginnings of improvisation, students will apply their skills to rhythm and show tap choreography. This class is not for a true beginner. Students must have a basic tap dance vocabulary including shuffles, flaps, paradiddles, etc. Tap shoes required.

Audition Prep | Adults

Feel prepared and confident for you next audition. Workshop monologues, discover your “type,” learn how to choose appropriate pieces, practice your cold reading skills, and put your skills to the test in a monologue presentation for The Rep’s resident casting director, Peter Mensky.  At the end of course, students will leave with an audition-worthy monologue and have the opportunity to perform for invited family and friends.

Voice Over Acting | Adults

A crash course introduction to the world of voice overs and voice acting, this class allows students to experience the differences and similarities between acting and voice acting. Working with a variety of real-world scripts, students will try different styles of voice overs and learn how to take direction as instructor and voice actor, Greg Myhre, workshops each piece. Within the 6-week semester, students will have the opportunity to learn many voice possibilities including how to voice a cartoon character, narrate a book on tape, and audition to be the voice of a new product!

Beginning Improv | Adult

Enhance your professional and personal skills through the study of beginning improvisation. Intermediate Improv | Adult

In this class, students will continue to deepen their understanding of long form improv while also cultivating a unique performance persona. Through the use of theatrical clown techniques inspired by Jacques LeCoq, this work will help actors discover their funniest self! Previous enrollment in an improvisation class at The Rep or extensive long-form improv experience is required.
