Masks have a seemingly magical ability to liberate an actor’s expressive potential and imagination. In an interactive workshop led by NYC-based actor and educator Carine Montbertrand, actors will explore physical and improvisational exercises that will unlock new tools for expression and character development. Using authentic masks inspired by Commedia dell’Arte archetypes, students will discover the thrill of transforming physically and vocally and learn methods they can apply to the creation of characters in any theatrical style. By the end of the workshop, actors will leave with an increased stage presence and a new sense of themselves as creative artists!
Students should wear comfortable, solid-colored clothes (preferably black) with no logos that they can move in freely. Students will be on their feet the majority of the four-hour workshop. Please bring a water bottle and a snack. Short breaks will be taken within the workshop.
