PROUD!

Celebrating the African-American Journey through an Artistic Lens

Connecting the past, present, and future of our community.

“PROUD!” is a living history production for students and adults, developed by The Rep in conjunction with Little Rock Central High School’s AP African American Studies curriculum.  Designed for middle and high school students (but appropriate for older elementary students), the production incorporates classic and original poetry, along with music and dance, which take us through a progression of these art forms throughout African American history. Additionally, the production highlights historically influential African American people and events that have shaped the history of Arkansas.

Each February, free student matinee performances – including transportation – are offered to surrounding schools from eight counties; as well as free public performances for the broader community.

PROUD is part of The Rep’s Community, Learning, and Public Programs initiative. Our goal with these programs is to capture the collective imagination and build community by embracing the art of theatre in all its forms. We recognize the unique ability of theatrical activities to improve mental well-being and emotional development. We strive to celebrate and develop the artistry of community members regardless of their age or experience.  We provide a platform for the sharing of varied human experiences to drive community conversations.  And we seek out collaborations with, and make our resources accessible to, like-minded community organizations.
