THE 24-HOUR PLAYS

This one night only event will take place on July 31st at the Arkansas Rep with all net proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross and regional tornado relief and you don’t want to miss it! So, what is the 24 Hour Plays? It’s 6 writers, 6 directors and 24 actors coming together to create 6 original plays all conceived, written, rehearsed, and performed in a 24 hour period. This concept began in New York City in 1995 and has been replicated and produced in cities around the globe. Now it’s our turn! The inaugural Little Rock event will be a fast paced night of theatre featuring outstanding Arkansas talent with plays written by Lesley Dancer, Graham Gordy, Coby Goss, Candrice Jones, Spade Robinson, and Kyle Therral Wilson. The plays will be directed by Caelon Colbert, Delance Minefee, Dariane Mull, Cat Miller, Ann Muse, and Justin Pike.

The 24 Hour Plays is a unique opportunity for theatre communities to immediately respond to what is happening around them. In what other format can you experience something in your community, write a play about it, and have it performed for an audience the next day? According to Mark Armstrong, the Artistic Director of the 24 Hour Plays NYC, “During this enormously challenging time for the creation of new work, The 24 Hour Plays are here, bringing the community together and creating singular evenings of theater where anything can (and does) happen.”

The shows created by our dynamic creative team have never been seen on any stage in the world and may never be seen again. If not for the amazing night of theatre, come out to support a great cause that will help people in our community who are still dealing with the aftermath of the devastating tornado that came through our town just a few months ago.
